THE VOYAGE OF ULYSSES
Music by Claudio Monteverdi, Henry Purcell, Christoph Willibald Gluck, Georg Friedrich Händel
Directed by Michal Znaniecki
The long and difficult return of Ulysses to the island of Ithaca is without question one of the most powerful stories in the history of literature, and it has represented a recurring inspiration for many artists including writers, musicians and painters. A voyage where water is a close companion, and at the same time the worst enemy in order to get to their final destination.
In this version for the Festival Opera Tigre several sources and texts referring to the adventures of Ulysses are intertwined together with some of the most beautiful arias and melodies inspired by the the absence and return of the greatest heroes. The show takes place on several succesive natural stages where the final return of Ulysses is followed and connected through the rivers of Delta de Tigre, including actors, singers, musicians, dancers and video projections on water screens.

UNDER THE STARS
The opening of the fourth edition of Festival Opera Tigre will continue the tradition of previous years with an open air singing recital with the collaboration of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Buenos Aires. This year we are honoured to announce that renowned mezzosoprano Adriana Mastrángelo will be our star under the stars, opening with this recital another amazing season which includes leading roles at Teatro Colón in Händel´s Giulio Cesare and Strauss’ Der Rosenkavalier.
In a special and unique environment, where the limits of the stage are defined by the rivers of Delta de Tigre, sorrounded by the exotic nature of the island and covered by the stars in the sky, an unforgettable night joining nature and art.
Adriana Mastrángelo will sing a beautiful program inspired by water, as it is the tradition in our festival, with a special homage to Monteverdi which includes his masterpiece Il Lamento d’Arianna, together with arias and songs by Purcell, Händel, Chopin, Fauré and Strauss.

DUE PENELOPE ULISSE
by: Pino Carbone d Anna Carla Broegg
Performers: Giandomenico Cupaiolo, Anna Carla Broegg
Direction: Pino Carbone
Production: Ente Teatro Cronaca VesuvioTeatro
This production of Due Penelope comes from Naples in Italy, born as a study of the relationship between human and theatrical matters. This production gives voice and body to the two protagonists of Homer’s The Odyssey at the precise moment when they meet again after twenty years of separation. It captures both characters at the moment when the myth acquires a private and intimate dimension.
The Odyssey as a dialogue between the waiting and the return, between the desire that moves and the desire that paralyzes, between Ulysses and Penelope. A dramatic view on one of the most powerful encounters between two characters in mythology. After so many visions and distorsions of the myth, we bring it back to the present of a theatrical truth, we make it alive in a dialogue between the two lovers.
In this process we find Il Ritorno di Ulisse in Patria by Monteverdi, choosen as a landscape to be crossed as a bridge between the mythical and the contemporary. The dramaturgic structure of the work thus follows the structure of the melodrama. The overture. The duetto. The recitative. The aria. The finale. A work on dialogue, a serious opera, an opera buffa, an opera.

The Festival Opera Tigre on the island Kaiola Blue (Buenos Aires) is an international project of Michał Znaniecki. The Festival aims to be extended along several countries around the River Paraná - Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, Argentina- with a significant emphasis and references to Polish culture.
The Festival will offer theatre and opera performances using the natural area of the island and the aquatic environment of the Paraná River. Audiences will be able to enjoy both small scale performances and concerts as well as open air opera megaproductions.
Festival Opera Tigre becomes part of the group of important festivals in which the water is an essential framework. Renowned international singers from around the world have already announced their intention to participate in the upcoming productions of "The Fairy Queen" and "Carmina Burana" staged on the water. Theatre and music workshops will complete and support the activities of the Festival, aimed at an international spectrum of young artists.
The first edition in December 2013 which announced the creation of the Festival took place on a single and intense day structured around a great number of small scale performances, concerts, workshops and plays where Witold Gombrowicz became a kind of leitmotif of the event. Singers and actors as Gabo Ferro, Marilu Marini, Nacho Gadano, María Bayo, Daniela Tabernig took part of that opening day accompanied by great musicians like Rubén Fernández Aguirre or Ensemble Tropi among other great artists - friends of the FOT.
